India: Maoist wall posters reappear after 10 years on the walls of government offices at Midgil

Undeterred by recent combing operations in the Nallamala forests after the arrest of Naxal leader Daragoni Srinu alias Vikram, Maoists pasted posters on the walls of government offices at Midgil in the district on Monday inviting people and supporters to attend the annual meeting to be held from July 28-Aug 2. Villagers and police were taken by surprise seeing the Maoists wall-posters after a gap of nearly a decade. The wall-posters were issued in the name of Mahbubnagar Maoist party and contained some crucial points such as invitation to people to join dalams, request to attend the annual meet, halt to construction of Polavaram project and warning to ‘coverts’.
For the last several years, there has been a lull in the activities of Maoists in the Nallamala forests covers two districts of Andhra Pradesh and Mahbubnagar in Telangana. However, since the gunning down of three naxalites by the Prakasam district police and the surrender of other leaders including Dharagoni Srinu alias Vikram, the Maoists stepped up their activities. It is learnt that a group of dalam members came to Midgil in the Kalwakurthy constituency and pasted wall-posters seeking the support for the annual meeting. It is also alleged that the Maoists were also on a fund collection drive. When contacted, Shadnagar DSP Dhronacharayalu said that the posters were pasted on MPDO and MRO offices as well as at bus stops by the Maoists but were later removed by the police.
