India - Martyrs’ Week from July 28

High alert on Odisha border for Maoists’ Martyrs’ Week
With the Maoists announcing the observation of the Martyrs’ Week from July 28, the Odisha government has sounded high alert on the bordering districts of the state to foil any violent activities during the period. According to reports, several Maoist posters and banners have been found in different areas of Malkangiri district and in the Sukma district in Chhattisgarh in which the Maoists have condemned the surrender policy of the state government. Besides, they have also asked the state government to stop anti-Maoist operations with immediate effect.

In a press release today, Malkangiri CPI-Maoist Divisional Committee has asked the state government to stop Operation Green Hunt against the Maoists. The Committee has also condemned police atrocity on innocent tribals who have been jailed after being branded as Maoists. “We have taken adequate security measures and intensified operations against the Red Rebels to foil their violent activities which they normally indulge during the weeklong celebration,” Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra told the media. In another incident, the CRPF personnel recovered a live landmine weighing about 25 kg during a combing operation inside Pindamala forest in Narayanpatna block in Koraput district this morning.
